Life is like a roller coaster ride. Sometimes it seems full of happiness with no place for problems and worries. Life can change at the blink of an eye and everything is suddenly different. An accident, illness or any unfortunate circumstance can turn life upside down. Adjusting to these unfortunate changes may be a difficult transition. Sometimes we take our lives and health for granted, until something extreme occurs. While it is impossible to go back in time, we can learn to adjust and live life to the fullest.One must remember that they still have the control of their life. Living with disability doesn’t mean they can’t live well. Of course, there must be accommodations,but people can still follow their dreams, hobbies and in continue to have a meaningful life. Living life in a wheelchair may be difficult, but one can become strongerand be independent.

Accepting to a Disability

Once a person accepts the change in their physical life, finding solutions to their new needs becomes less difficult. There are various options available in wheelchairs to that improve mobility, assist with better range of motion,and provide a sense of empowerment. It’s not about disability; it’s about overcoming the challenges and emerging as a stronger version of yourself.

Coming to Terms with aChanged Life

Grievingthe parts of life that is lost is healthy and necessary to the process of moving forward. Acceptance allows a person to start navigating their new normal.  People can still be happy andhave a meaningful and even continue participating in activities they did before needing a wheelchair. Staying motivated, though sometimes challenging, is the key. There are so many individuals who live with a disability that necessitates using a wheelchair and manage to achieve their goals in life.  However, just finding pleasures in your new life circumstances is an inspiration to everyone around you.

It can be difficult not to focus on the things one cannot do.  Shifting focus to the things one can do, helps to make the days something to look forward to. Learning about one’s disability and knowing what the body can do will help will help to make adjustments more quickly and prepare for the future.

Being in a wheelchair should not stopanyone from doing what they want to do. With that in mind, setting specific goals will help a person learn new life skills. Disability should not be a reason for social isolation.  Continuing to socialize with one’s friends and family, and meeting new people can still be part of one’s life. Helping and supporting others with similar disabilities is another continue having a positive life.
