As coronavirus cases are increasing exponentially all over the world, it is extremely important for everyone to practice the correctsteps for prevention. Personal hygiene is important not just to prevent the spread of infection, but also to stay safe and healthy during this pandemic. While health experts and others are talking about the use of hand sanitizers, it is essential that one knows how to use it correctly as one way to decrease the risk of infection
Using hand sanitizers correctly:
- Choosing the right sanitizer
A bottle of hand sanitizer is an easy on the go cleaning agent to keep hands virtually virus free. However, the desired effect results only from the right product. Using a hand sanitizer that is made of at least 60% alcohol can help you avoid spreading the virus or catching the virus. Only alcohol based hand sanitizers are able to quickly reduce the number of microbes on hands, however, it doesn’t eliminate all of them.
The sanitizers with a concentration of alcohol between 60-95% are highly effective at killing germs and viruses.
- How to apply?
When using a hand sanitizer, you should follow that product’s instructions for correct amount to use. Place the required amount of sanitizer in the palm of one hand and rub it all over the surfaces of both hands until the hands are dry.  If some sanitizer still remains on one’s hands, do not wipe it away. It is best to let the sanitizer completely dry on your hands.Experts suggest that sanitizers take around 30 seconds to kill various germs and viruses.
- Use soap and water when hands are visibly dirty and greasy
Hand sanitizers work fine in clinical settings where hands may come into contact with germs but are not greasy, dirty or soiled. However, in community settings, where handing food, playing sports, touching pets, or working in the garden, hands will get dirty and greasy. Â In these conditions, hand sanitizers may not be effective protection. Use of soap and water for washing hands is recommended in these circumstances.
